Proj. 2 updates/thoughts

I have gotten more familiar with garage band and have a good handle on the software and was able to produce  a decent 1:50 beat that has helped me map out what I want to do.Now I have to fix some of the minor problems with the vid then create the music. I probably want to use a guitar with a piano or drums or both and just find the basic sound and build around, once I find the constant/basic sound the rest should be good and I will be able high step to the finish like Vince McMahon(see gif).

Good theme music Pt.2

This is the theme for Metal gear solid 2. Its probably one of the more famous video game themes and one of the most praised/popular. It was made by the star wars composer. It does a good job of mixing a military feel and a futuristic feel to it and just like most good pieces, it starts with a slow build up to the main action then slows down before picking up again. Just an example of a good piece of music.

Good promo music pt.6

This the trailer for Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition. Now what makes this trailer great is not just the action and per-rendered action but the music for the trailer which just perfectly fits in the retro future of fallout. The song is a o-midge to home on the range instead its home on the wastes, and they did a good job of syncing the music likes its being heard in the world to being the theme of the trailer and its just a really cool song that adds to the trailer and brings a simile on my face.

Good theme music

This bit of good theme music is from Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which has become one of the most popular series over the last 10 years. This is the main theme/menu music for the game and I have always enjoyed and thought that it was great. When you hear regardless if you know anything about the series,it just screams adventure and treasure hunting and makes you want to explore the world.

Good promo music pt.5

This trailer is for gears of war 3, officially titled "Dust to Dust". Again another launch/t.v. trailer and just like most gears trailers this one has a good music track that really makes trailer good and  strive home that this is the end of the trilogy and the last ditch hope of the end of the trilogy. The editing is good with syncing with the action and make it work in a game that you wouldn't think to hear this song.

Good promo music pt.4

This trailer/promo is for mass effect 2, which was one of my favorite games of 2010, this was the launch trailer for the game and when the trailer came out most people's biggest praise which was the music they choose for the trailer, this piece of music has been used before but it fit the game well and defiantly a track that pulls the heart strings and a good example of how music can impact a trailer.

Proj. 2 update/thoughts

with the about 3 weeks until the audio is due,I have been listening to a lot of music, more than usual, and promo music for colleges, schools, etc. It has helped somewhat in terms of tempo, texture and what kind of instruments are typically used but won't have a good idea until I look more closely and get idea of the pace, and when cuts are made and all that stuff and see what willie has to say and his insight on how I should start and listen for. So soon I'm going to have to get serious about and not spend too much time playing around with garage band since it is a simple program but easy to get lost in.

Music for Design Pt.4

I'm bored,so here's more music that I like listening to while designing. The song is "Workin' Man Blues" by Aceyalone, specifically the NBA 2k12 version. What I like about this song is that it has a nice up tempo beat that makes you get up and move or at least bob your head or something like that. Plus most people can relate to the song's subject matter and we have all had workin' man blues at one point or another. Plus Aceyalone vocals and lyrics are nice and compliment the beat nicely and cee-lo on the chorus is nice change of pace.

Music for Design Pt. 3

Another song that's good for designing is "check tha rhyme" by A Tribe Called Quest of there 1991 album Low End Theory, what makes this song great is pretty much everything from the slick jazz beat to the rhyming of phife and q-tip who perfectly play off each other. Its a track that helps you slow down and think and very relaxing so when I'm doing a project i can listen to this song and it helps me get through a creative block that dealing with.

Proj 2 update/thoughts

As mentioned in other posts, the second project is adding audio to thu e vid. Not just any audio but audio that you have to create the audio making tool on macs using garage band. Garage band is a simple music making program with hundreds of kind of music and instruments to create a track. Its easy to learn and fun to make a track. The only problem is that some instruments only have a couple of samples or tracks but its alright I can make do. I just started so don't have much to report on in the meantime here is a GIF of J.R. Smith being J.R. Smith.

Good promo music Pt. 3

This promo is for the highly anticipated The dark knight rises and this is the first trailer that shows of the movie. I assume most people have seen it, so I will focus on the audio. The audio as expected is good with the batman theme and how it matches up with the action as the tension builds so does the music and defiantly I think makes this trailer as audio for any movie trailer is very important even more so then maybe other mediums.
as you can see the audio does a good job of creating tension and action as the mood and action changes on the screen,so does the audio and it gets stuck in your head and that's the point of the audio is not just create the scene, fell but to get it stuck in your head after the trailer is over.

Good Promo music Pt. 2

This next promo is a promo for the match between The Rock and Stone cold at WM 17. Aside from being one of the best pre-match promos ever. The music choose fit well with the vid and yes even though the song is by limp bizkit it does fit and gets you hyped for the match. It also didn't help this was a great main event in probably the best WM of all time.
As you can see the music fits well with the action and slows down when the action slows down and picks up when the action picks up. Also the different cuts of the song match up well and overall adds to the vid. So I will stop writing and let you enjoy wrestling goodness.

Bonus vid heres there one from WM 19, same things that made the first one great also make this one great.

Proj 1 update/reflection

Just finished and presented my 30 sec CCC promo vid for my design class and it went well as usual, some minor tweaks here and there but that's expected, it was weird w/o sound but that's what the next project is for right. was pleased the other classmates liked, the project was difficult it was just the matter of getting an idea and putting a cohesive vid together and using common sense and not get distracted like this guy in this gif.

Good Promo music

Now that were focusing on audio for a vid, i looked for promos with good audio which is one of the most important aspects of a vid. This first vid is from a trailer for the game metro 2033, its a good trailer but the music makes it very good. The music I believe is from the 28 days later soundtrack.
As you can see its a good trailer that defiantly sets the mood of the game well and the music defiantly makes trailer as it just doesn't fit it perfectly but the editing of the music to the action is good and fits with what is going on in the vid.

Cool Art Part 2

Again more fallout 3 concept art, this though is hand drawn probably when the game was in concept stage. I think the drawing is really cool because you can see where the game was going, with the mass destruction and the wastes in the forefront and D.C. in the background and I like the sense of survival and loneliness in the piece with the character standing and looking over the wastes and planning his next move.

Starburst morph commercial

I saw this starburst commercial recently and it made me chuckle. Its for there new type of starburst "morph" and it was a simple but effective commercial that I thought was one of the better commercials I seen recently. Streets!
Again simple concept but used effectively and makes me want to watch the commercial again and maybe not buy the starburst morph, but it does make me want starburst preferably fav reds because there the bees knees.

My Videos- Kinetic Type

I made this kinetic type vid for my motion graphics class. We had to do it around one of the 3 themes and I choose cracking the code and I wanted to make it like a old secret gov't doc. that has been blacked out and people are trying to put the events together or crack the code if you will.
I used a old newspaper background with a type writer font and created a black out mark in photoshop and imported it to after effects to create a black out mark from a sharpie and since this was my 1st time using after effects i kept it simple while trying to make it interesting.

Proj 1 update

The college promo vid project is due in a week and its starting to come together, with most of the photos being shot and now its about where to place the text, order of photos, length there shown, etc. and titling. Hopefully I will br able to have a creative boost and get this done before I hit puntcon-1 as illustrated by this gif.

Jordan Commerical

This commercial for the Jordan brand is the second in a series of 4 commercials in this "series" of sorts, its a simple commercial with close ups of normal and famous athletes and a uplifting monologue by Michael Jordan about belief in yourself.
what makes this commercial good and have staying power is the monologue by Michael Jordan, not just because its MJ voice but the monologue itself can be applied and understood by anybody, not just an athlete but any common man or woman can connect with the words. Also the piano is great and really adds to the vid.

My Videos- 30 sec. Trailer

This is a 30 sec. trailer I made for my video production class. We just had to make a 30 dec. trailer using videos from archive.org. I choose to make a trailer for a WWII documentary.
I utilized a lot of hard cuts, fading for the trailer and used Eisenhower's D-Day speech in the background, I matched up or related Eisenhower's words with the footage or at least made sure it wasn't out of place when matched up with his speech. I used instrumental music to create emotion and go along with the footage and I made the title screen simply and wanted it to fade when the american flag went up, since I thought it looked nice. The only trouble I had was to leave the text up long enough so people can read it.

Photography- Object Shot/Black & White

This B&W object was also for my photography class. The purpose of the shot was to utilize light/shadows, light/dark spots in the B&W photo. I choose an old WWII ammo box and placed in the woods and tried to make it almost like its on a battlefield in Europe.
Click on image to view full size

Through photoshop I was able to convert the photo to B&W. I highlighted areas and darkened area to add      depth and bring out certain features, like the lettering, it was a little faded so I brought it back to life and a darkened some of the ground and the box itself. I highlighted and darkened the grass to bring contrast and bring out box. I also blurred the background a bit to make it darker and almost create a old wartime photo feel and to bring depth to the photo.

My Product Ad- Jordan/Nike Shoe

This product shot I made was from my photography class a couple of semesters ago. The point of the proj. was simply create an ad for product you shot. I shot a sneaker, so i created a ad around. My idea was to keep it simply, people want to see the shoe and don't care what you say if the shoe looks good, it will speak for itself.
Click on the image to view full size.
As you can see, I kept it simple, main focus was the shoe with the logo, tagline, website. I used the colors of the shoe (red) on the logos and used white for the text to offset the red. I used the shoe as a punctuation mark, since the shoe is at a unique angle it makes you stop and look at it. I cleaned up the shoe using photoshop to make it look factory floor new. I added the logo/tagline at the top and the website at the bottom but kept the focus on the shoe.

Promos I Like Part 5

This promo is from the ESPN 30 for 30 series. In this trailer it combines many of the films into one trailer, with  each of the featured movies getting a 5-10 sec byte. I think this trailer does a great job at what it was made for.
The clips shown with the narration over them are perfect. The narration is simple but very effective. The ticket stub at the end is a very cool touch that adds a lot to it. The music does a great job of providing the right emotion and its not just about sports but the humans behind it, so it doesn't just appeal to sports fan but any person looking for an interesting story/documentary.

Proj 1 update/ideas

Been thinking about the ideas willie told me and defiantly thinking it would be a cool idea, so now its about preparing and preparing for it and will look in to see if there is something out there similar to what I want to do. I need music to think(specifically jug music).

Promos I Like Part 4

Another wrestling promo I like is the promo CM Punk vs John Cena at Money in the Bank this past summer. The promo does of good job of recapping the pervious weeks events with clips and some good effects/music in the vid. You can say what you want about the WWE but they sure do know how to make a promo vid, especially since this was one of the best matches in the WWE in quiet awhile that doesn't involve The Undertaker.

The vid does a great job with pacing and how long certain clips are the different audio effects to the wrestlers really adds nicely to the vid and creates a cool feel to the vid. Also the music choice about minute in is great and defiantly adds a lot of character and depth to the vid and defiantly makes causes a reaction or feeling out of you. All in all its just a great promo vid and you should just watch it.

My Website Designs- Basketball Site

This home page was for a basketball site aimed at younger groups and coaches of youth. The site features your typical NBA stuff in terms of scores, teaminfo, etc. but it has a lot of training features like how to improve your jump-shot and teaching different defenses and how to execute and how to stay in shape for basketball, interviews with players/coaches and a game room. I thought i did a good job with the basketball court background and with the font being bold but readable and not making it to info or word heavy, went for a balanced clean look.

My Website Designs- Portfolio site

I created this website that is a functioning website by the way, of a portfolio site for yourself or a company you created featuring your stuff. I wanted to keep my website simple and easy to use because people just want to see your work and dont really care too much what you say because you could be a sliver tongue devil but if your work sucks then what you say doesn't matter so i wanted to feature the work as much as possible, with some background info for context because in the end you have to put up or shut up.

Music for Design Part 2

Another song that is good when designing, making videos, etc. That song is "They Reminisce Over You"  by Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth. This song helps me with design because the smooth jazz beat his very soothing and the C.L.'s lyrics/flow are relaxing and can help you center yourself and let the creative juices flow through your body because sometimes when designing you just need to relax and focus one thing at a time and this song helps.

Proj 1 ideas/updates

going to start taking photos for the carroll promo vid. Did my storyboard and have a lot of ides for pics for the vid and how to make it interesting. Hopefully I will be able to execute and make a good promo vid with just still images and no sound. I let this gif illustrate my excitement.

Promos I Like Part 3

This trailer is for the video game Bioshock and it was the first trailer released for it back in 06. This trailer does a good job of sucking you into the world and raising a lot of questions and emotions as well as building a lot of anticipation.

This trailer did pretty much everything right from the music, imagery, dialogue, etc. The monologue in the beginning was perfect from the delivery, subject and context of what he was taking about and the old grainy sound of the recording gave it a lot of depth and texture. The trailer also gave a nice look of what gameplay will probably look like. What the trailer did best was provoke emotions of wander, fear, anticipation, tension, etc. It makes you want to go find out more about the game and anticipate it's release and that is the point of a trailer isn't?

Cool Art

I really like this concept art for fallout 3. Defiantly a good snapshot with the capitol building and the rest of what's left of D.C. in the background. The BoS solider in the foreground is a nice touch and almost provides a sort of story of why is he there? Is he good or bad?, etc. Overall this is a nice piece of art.

College promos

This college promo is for Douglass college, its your typical college promo with variety of different college students the positive's and how if you come here, you will become king of the world.

I did like how they constantly kept switching scenes and angles to keep interest, thought I thought it was a little weird that the camera kept moving like someone forget to take it off the track or something. Also in the beginning they went through some dramatic pauses at the end of there sentences that didnt sound right to me but overall its what you'd expect from a college promo.

Promos I Like Part 2

This promo/teaser trailer is for one of my personal favorite games: Fallout 3. This long awaited trailer for the 3rd installment in the fallout series created a ton of buzz when released and by watching the trailer it is easy to see why it created such a buzz.

As you see, it started off with drawing in the viewer with a super close up with a slow zoom out and the visuals, hints throughout add a lot of intrigue. Also a fabulous music choice in the Ink Spots as well as the shift to more instrumental music, with the Ron Perelman voice over that still gives people chills. All in all this is an example of how to do a promo/teaser and get people more interested in the product.

Music for design

like most, while I'm working I like to listen to music. Lately a song that I have rediscovered lately is "by the time I get to Arizona" by Public Enemy. One of the best PE tracks, its hard hitting with a smooth delivery by Chuck D and what you'd expect from a PE track. This song helps me with design/work in that just like any great song it kind of gives you a shot in the arm and its a good song to just step back and listen while trying to figure out a solution or trying to get through a creative block.

Proj 1 ideas/update

The last few days i given thought on what to do for the CCC promo vid with still images and whether to target traditional or non- traditional students and what exactly to pics to take and how to make it interesting. Probably will do the typical outside shots, some classroom shots but will probably focus on everyday shots. Will try to use kinetic type in some form throughout the vid to add motion and spice it up a bit. Little flustered that I don't have a good idea but I should soon and won't be a issue in making a good vid but I will let this GIF illustrate how I feel.

West Chester U promo vid

This promo vid for West Chester U is similar structure to the one we have to make in class, Its 30sec. and while it does have video, it does use still photos as well with moving text with a voice over of the typical mombo jumbo that schools say to get you to go there.

pretty simple but one of the few school ads that are 30 sec. Not fantastic but these aren't met to be world beaters, there supposed to be low budget stuff unless it is a bi university promoting itself during televised sporting events on ESPN. I like the mix of photos and video with the phrases tying in the school colors. Don't like the voice over guy, his voice just doesn't work for me.

Promos I like Part 1

This promo video is from the wwf ppv survivor series back in 2000. I think it does a good job of promoting the main event as well as the ppv as whole, the use of the different vids and monologue by triple h is well done and the music adds a lot of depth and mood to the promo(actual promo from 0:00-1:25).

definitely makes me want to watch it and even though it is much different compared to the one we have to make in class, it does serve as a example of making a simple short promote promote something and cause interest.
